TOUS les JOURS

A French styled bakery new in town! It offered a variety of breads and cakes, most of which we could have seen before. I tried the Magdalene, it was not really a Magdalene.. It's more of a soft texture, just like chiffon cake. I was hoping it to be crunchier and more buttery, it was quite expensive I think, but anyways, it tastes good and kind of addictive I just can't stop munching!

Chicken Village

Fascinated by the Beggar's Chicken in the menu book, we decided to have  our dinner here. Beggar's chicken is absolutely a time consuming dish. Thus when this dish is sold out, the customers would have to wait for a long time to have this dish on their plate. So, we somehow arrived at the right time, and this chicken came only a few minutes after we ordered.

Beggar's Chicken

I was quite amazed that the outer layer of clay to cover the chicken is beautifully carved even though it's going to be smashed into pieces. That's right. After this dish arrived at our table, the servant brought a hammer along, breaking the outer clay layer, revealing a fragrant chicken meat which had been cooked thoroughly-- probably overnight. The taste of the chicken meat is just amazing, It was so soft that I can just swallow it without biting. The flavor was really nice too.

Taiwan Dian Xin

Taiwan Dian Xin is a small cafe-like restaurant in Pluit Village. It offers Taiwan night street snacks, such as crispy chicken, popcorn chicken, crispy corn, fried sweet potato, fried mushrooms, bubble tea and others..
 Fried Sweet Potato Rp 16.000/ US$ 1.8

What makes Taiwan Dian Xin different from any other is that its flour is imported from Taiwan, and it has a really nice smell. It feels like it's made from natural herbs. The best dish I tried here is Popcorn Chicken, but I didn't take a picture last time. It's really nice-- so flavourful and the chicken inside is like so juicy..

The sweet potato is another striking dish. I had ever tried this in another place, but it doesn't taste as good as this. The sweet potato here is really really sweet, and they use plum powder which just combines nicely with the crispy sweet potato.

Crispy Chicken is one of the most famous snack in Taiwan itself. The one here is crispy, but because it has too much flour, not all of it fried to perfection. But I would say it really taste delicious, the chicken is quite thick.

I did not order any drinks though, but they gave free sample drink, and when I taste it it was really good, refreshing, and it just smells good. It was some sort of flavoured tea the drink that I tasted last time.

port er house PIK

Port er house is a western resto with a cozy outlook. With an open bar, wide outdoor space and such an engaging interior design, it definitely is a place to see and to be seen.
Not only does it has a outstanding design, friendly service, but its choices of foods are so various and mouthwatering.

Lemon Tea

The lemon tea is served with lime sorbet. Well, me and my cousins were quarreling about whether it is ice cream, as my cousin insisted that it was gulali (some sort of traditional Indonesian sweet candy cotton). But no it wasn't. we asked the waiter and he claimed that it is sorbet.

The menu book

The country designed menu book just boosted our appetite. The random food scribble in it are just simple but mouthwatering.

Penne Carbonara

The carbonara sauce is not overflowing, but the penne still taste really nice because the sauce, even in a small amount, gave out such a strong taste. If you look carefully, you might find a few uncooked spaghetti sticks. I guessed those are roasted spaghetti, lightly seasoned with salt and pepper. And, because I have never tried it before, it taste nice. Hahah

Penne Tri Colore

Well, I didn't try this dish, it belongs to my aunt or uncle.. (actually the penne carbonara belongs to my brother but I just took a few spoons.. Just curious..hehe)

Mushroom Soup

I only managed to get a few spoons of this thick, heartwarming soup, as my cousin finishes it up so quickly :( Anyways, it really is nice. I love love looovee the strong mushroom taste. And actually I got to finish the garlic bread but it was hard, but is still very edible.

Zenbu

Zenbu is a Japanese family restaurant. Its speciality is a dish named Mozaru, butter or curry rice topped with a selection of meat, then covered with mozzarella cheese with a choice of dynamite, butter, or tomato. Its other dishes are sumptuous too. The interior might not be the most majestic, but it brings out a friendly atmosphere.

The menu book-- so mouthwatering!

Cheeze Tofu Rp 25.000/ US$ 2.8

Well, I didn't expect this dish too be so cheesy, but it really has a generous amount of mozzarella  I would have to say. The fried tofu/ beancurd inside is so soft.

Donburi

At my last visit here I tried Hamburg donburi, but I didn't take a picture last time, so I took one in the menu book on this visit. The hamburger is so meaty and it's topped with sweet and thick mayonnaise. It might not be the nicest hamburg dish I ever tasted, but it's nice anyways.

                   Hotmix Rp55.000/ US$ 6

Hotmix sushi are stuffed with minced fresh salmon in a spicy sauce, and is topped with a thin slice of cheese. It's like bursting out all he flavour when I put it into my mouth for the first time. But the second ite doesn't taste as nice as the first ones though. I found it pricey, but is really worth to try.

 Free Ocha

Unagi Don Rp 65.000/ US$7

Unagi, barbequed eel is possibly everyone's favorite japanese dish. This serving of unagi is really generous. The unagi tastes nice too, and the thin slices of the egg, mmm...

Ya Kun Kaya Toast

Ya Kun Kaya Toast has many branches inside shopping centres here in Jakarta. It gets really crowded at around 2-3, as many people come here to chat and have their evening tea time. The place is simple yet modern.

Tea Rp 13.000/ US$1.5

Ice Lychee Tea Rp 21.000/US$ 2.5

The lychee tea, although a little bit pricy, is worth it as it's got the capability og lightening up your mood. It's very sweet, too sweet I would say, but that is what lychee tea is all about - sweetness. There are a few small pieces of lychee underneath. The tea itself has a strong fruit flavor.

Butter Sugar Toast Rp 14.000/ US$ 1.6

This is their signature dish-- toasts. Well, actually they are most famous for Kaya Toast, which is a very close relative of the one in the picture. The on here has sugar instead of kaya jam. What makes it distinguishable from any other toasts is its crispy wholemeal bread. Tried to ask if they sold the bread separately but they didn't. The bread is very crispy, and even though it's wholemeal, you won't feel very full even after eating a portion of it.

Ajisen Ramen

Ajisen Ramen is a Japanese Family Restaurant and can be found it lots of shopping centres here in Jakarta. It offers a vast quantity of foods, with Ramen being its specialty. Its Ramen comes in two choices- handmade or import, and in two sizes- regular and large.

Its interior is comfortable and simple. The servants are friendly.

Table mat

Ocha and Spices

The Ramen has a milky white broth, and the taste is just heartwarming. The noodle is fine, and the Ramen comes with a variety of toppings, you can also add extra topping, such as corn, etc.. at an extra charge. When eating the Ramen, I would recommend to use a generous amount of the chili paste, it's really nice and not very spicy.
Chasiu Ramen Rp40.000/ US$ 4.5

Chicken Teriyaki Don
Chicken Teriyaki Combo set Rp 30.000/ US$ 3.2

The Combo set consists of a bowl of chicken teriyaki don, which is fried chicken with tamago (sweet fried egg) on top of a big bowl of rice. I don't think the chicken teriyaki don can be eaten solely, as it only has a tiny amount of chicken, and is not enough to be eaten along with the rice. The chicken is not meaty at all. I can hardly taste the chicken, and the tamago is not sweet enough. The Combo comes along with two pieces (or bites) of chicken karaage, a piece of gyoza, some coleslaw, a bowl of clear carrot soup and ocha. It would be of a nice value of meal even though the taste is not that satisfying. After eating this one set you would be full even when you had starved before eating.

Spaggedies

Spaggedies is decorated in a fusion o fold fashion and contemporary design. It has a very cosy atmosphere and is a perfect place to hangout with families or friends. The servants here are friendly and the foods exceptionally delicious. It was quite pricey, though, but the money you spent will be worth it.
Ice Lemon Tea Rp20.000/US$2.2

Chicken and Pasta Salad Rp45.000/US$5

The salad consists mostly of romaine lettuce, tomato, strips of chicken and sprinkle of shredded cheese, with a few tiny chunks of mozarella cheese. It was dressed  with vinaigrette, so I bet this is very healthy and suitable for those undergoing diet. The little pasta somehow made a significant taste to the salad. And the croutons--amazing!

Spaghetti Vongole Rp 60.000/US$6.8

I wasn't that fascinated with clear soup spaghetti like this vongole di bianco, but I just fell in love once I put the spaghetti in my mouth. The broth is so heartwarming. I can tell that it was made of real broth instead of just adding salt and seasoning to hot water. The clams in the pasta menu is very generous. There are like around a dozen of the mollusk on the plate. The addition of just adequate amount of herbs made up the flavor without destructing the taste of the pasta.

Smoked Salmon Pizza Rp75.000/ US$8

I almost went for the mushroom and cheese pizza, until I found this one on the menu book. Mushroom and cheese pizza is my all time favorite, but since I had it a few times before already, why not go for something new? When the pizza arrived at our table, I was not that appealed to the presentation, as the pizza crust seemed thick and I was expecting the Italian thin crust pizza. Nevertheless, the pizza crust is crunchy and goes really well with the toppings. The smoked salmon slices are quite thick, the sour cream is just nice and the black olives is nicer than the one I found elsewhere. Usually olives are salty, but this one is not. It's simply refreshing.

QQ Kopitiam

QQ Kopitiam, as its name suggests, is a kopitiam style cafe, with kopitiam style foods, but made to a more contemporary liking. I stopped by for evening snack once, and this is what we had.

The Old Style Table Number Plate

Ice Barley Rp13.000/US$1.5

The barley is so flavorful, they are adding pandan leaves and a lemon slice.
The lemon tea is refreshing as usual.
What's unique with the beverages here is that it is served in a jam jar with a handle, so it looks really nice and appetiting.

Ice Lemon Tea Rp13.000/US$1.5

Fried Banana Rp 15.000/US$1.8

The Fried banana is so crispy, as it was fried with bread crumbs. The banana inside is so sweet. Dipped in the kaya sauce, it's really a nice dish for snack time.

J.CO Donuts and Coffee

J.CO Donuts and Coffee is a donut cafe, a perfect place for hanging out. It is easily found at almost every single mall here in Jakarta, and it is spreading to Kuala Lumpur as well as Singapore. Other than the donuts, the cozy orange colour dominated cafes also offer a wide variety of beverages, like coffee and teas. It also offer yummy frozen yoghurt. I find the donuts here really satisfying, it's sweet and creamy. It's so addictive. There are lots of choices to choose from and nowadays they have new flavors in a short time.

Choco Banana

Lychee

Tiramisu

Why Nut

Snow White

Hola Mango

Hello Berry

All donuts are at Rp6.000 each, but you will get discount if you buy it in boxes of 6 or 12. My personal favorite flavor is tiramisu and why nut, which are also their oldest flavor. I never get bored of them. The topping is so sweet and the fillings are just yummy. Why Nut is filled with peanut jam and Tiramisu is filled with vanilla cream.
